AAEM24 - Cancer Immunotherapy Adverse Events

This session will guide you through a real-world approach to cancer patients receiving immunotherapy. Gain confidence when your patient starts with, “I’m on a -mab”. When we hear ‘cancer treatment’ most of us think of chemotherapy and the adverse events related to that modality. Immunotherapy is a whole new ballgame regarding treatment success but also the presentations and treatments of adverse events. We start with mechanisms behind chemotherapy and immunotherapy to understand how the adverse events differ. If patients on chemotherapy are ‘immunosuppressed’, how should we think about immunotherapy? Can I give steroids? Who requires admission? What should scare the bejesus out of me? We’ll address these questions and what you need to know when you talk to the oncologist with a straightforward, logical approach. This session was recorded on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at the 30th Annual Scientific Assembly (AAEM24) in Austin, TX.
