AAEM24 - Can I Leave Yet? Reducing Behavioral Health Boarding Times in the ED

Are you routinely boarding several behavioral health patient for days? Ever wonder if you could reduce wait times and boarding times for these patients? I s there something you can do to improve the care for behavioral health patients in your ED? YES!

This presentation is designed to focus on what the practicing Emergency Medicine physician can do to improve the care of the behavioral health patient to expedite their transition or disposition. Aggressive early intervention for psychiatric patients in the Emergency Department may result in decreased ED length of stay, increase in discharged from the ED, and improved safety and care for these patients. Potential interventions include decreasing unnecessary screening tests, early treatment of agitation, and optimal use of multidisciplinary care coordination.
