The Le Fort classification was developed before the evolution of high speed vehicles. In the modern environment, it is much more important to identify which bones are broken, to know the associated soft tissue injuries, to know how to manage the facial trauma patient in the ED and to be able to accurately communicate any clinical concerns to a surgeon.
