There are specific challenges involved when treating a patient in custody. Unique law enforcement injury patterns, toxicologic problems, psychiatric disease, and traumatic injuries are all over-represented problems in this patient population. Prompt follow up and return for further care are often denied to these patients, therefore caution is indicated.
